Pickett State Forest offers designated roads for ATV and other OHV use. Riders can explore routes such as Redmond Mountain Road, Yellow Doors Road, and Redmond Rim Road. Some ATV trails are only open seasonally, so be sure to check for updates before planning your adventure. 

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park gives visitors plenty of ways to enjoy the Cumberland Plateau, from hiking among sandstone formations and rock shelters to paddling and fishing on 12-acre Arch Lake. Visitors can also stargaze in the Dark Sky-designated park and explore the Pickett CCC Museum to learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area offers opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, and scenic driving through the rugged landscape of the Cumberland Plateau. Visitors can also explore sandstone bluffs, natural arches, waterfalls, and historic sites while taking in views of the Big South Fork River.

Pickett-Pogue International Dark Sky Park is composed of 1,618 hectares of land.

The park is located in a relatively dark region of the eastern United States. The astronomy field is within walking distance and can be seen from our camp entrance.

The trip will take you on a picturesque 45-minute trip to Blue Heron, where you will spend 1.5 hours exploring the beautiful and historic scenery, with a 45-minute trip back to the depot, including a narration and history of the area (3 hours total).

The Twin Arches are one of the most unusual and beautiful geologic features in the Big South Fork. The Arches themselves may be reached by hiking a short trail of seven tenths of a mile one way.

Historic Rugby is a heritage treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972 and pursuing National Landmark Status for the Thomas Hughes Library, believed to be the oldest completely preserved public lending library in America.

Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park preserves the home and legacy of World War I hero Alvin C. York. Visitors can explore York’s family home, historic buildings while learning about his military service, community leadership, and life after the war.
